The Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program

The Farmer’s Market Nutrition Coupon Program is a partnership between the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets and the BC Government Provincial Health Services Authority. The Program operates in 54 communities, where local farmers’ markets partner with local organizations such as Cariboo Family Enrichment Center.
The BC Government aims to improve the health and well being of British Columbia’s at every stage of life. The BC Government helps British Columbia’s to better manage their own health and reduce chronic disease by focusing on four key areas: healthy eating, healthy lifestyles, resources for parents and fostering healthy communities.

The Farmer’s Market Nutrition Coupon Program (FMNCP) is a healthy eating initiative that supports farmers’ markets and strengthens food security to lower income families and seniors.

CFEC was fortunate to support 30 families/individuals with coupon vouchers for a period of 16 weeks during the 2017 season. Each household enrolled in the program received a weekly booklet of coupons totaling $15 which equates to $240 in free food coupons over the course of the program. These coupons can be redeemed for fresh fruit, vegetables, fresh herbs, cheese, eggs, nuts, fish, seafood and meat. Overall through the FMNCP we supported 7 seniors and 23 families with a total of 59 children.
